If I want to uninstall older releases of MATLAB for the purpose of recovering drive space without affecting the newer version. Is it possible?

If you navigate to C:\Program Files\MATLAB
You should see a folder for each version you have installed. I find my uninstall in e.g. 2018b if I further navigate to
C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2018b\uninstall\bin\win64
There should be no problems removing old versions - each version installation is completely parallel.

If you are not using the old version anymore, then go ahead and remove it. New versions do not depend on the old versions.
I end up installing a lot of old versions, but my situation is different: I am assisting a lot of people running old versions and I have to be able to replicate exactly what they are seeing.
