Hi! I had the same problem. Im runing matlab 2014a with a msi computer. I had to deactivate the NVIDIA graphics processor and run matlab with the integrated processing unit.

MSI sounds like Microstar International, which is mostly MS Windows computers. The original poster was running Linux... which could still be on an MSI or similar computer, but has different driver issues, especially as the poster was not using the vendor hardware drivers.
