appdesigner doesn't work

SO I have matlab r2016b(academic version), everything works fine except for appdesigner, when I type appdesigner into the command prompt and nothing happens(a second matlab program appears but it's empty, the only interaction possible is to close it). I still can open the app I created but not in designer mode. I tried turning off antivirus and giving exception but that didn't help. Thank you in advance for your help.

Are you using OS-X Sierra? Or which operating system?
