Crop the given image into individual letters

hello, we are working on the project of automated handwriting analysis. At present we have achieved a line and word segmentation. I want to crop the individual letters of a cursive handwriting. Please guide me.
e.g., the word household should be individually cropped to each letter...

i think the word useful should be cropped/segmented as separate 6 letters as u s e f u l .
