Why the symbolic method fail when I tried to expand a ellipse

I am writing a function to expand a ellipse. However when I tried to use coeffs to get the new parameters (the commented part), the result is wrong. I can get correct answer by using formula directly, however I just want to know why this happen?
The variable "coe" is the ellpse general equation's coefficients

I get the correct result (at least for coe = [1;1;1;1;1;1]) :
aex = expandA(ones(6,1)).'
