Why do I get the following error in my license manager log file?

CANNOT OPEN options file: "/path/to/mlm.opt"

This error can have different causes:

• The Options file does not exist
• Wrong file extension
• Missing Read permission

The Options file does not exist (in the expected location)

It could have been moved, deleted, or was never created. Check the location of the file and make sure the file path in the license.dat should be corrected. 

How do I create an Options file?

Wrong file extension

Check the properties to make sure the file type is OPT (not TXT). The visibility of file extension can be enabled/disabled in the View tab of the Windows File Explorer.Options files need to be saved in the following way:

• File name = mlm.opt 
• File type = All Files (*.*)

Missing Read permission

Check the permissions. As a test you can also place the options file on the desktop and point toward the new location in the license file (options=<new file location>).

Note: If you have recently replaced your LMGRD and MLM binaries, you will need to set Local User permissions for the options file.
