I see 16 with the regular flat image. If I use parallel vision ala magic eye, I see 20. Could probably detect them in MATLAB using a Roberts edge filter and a morphological closing.
No way there's more than 16!
All vertical lines are within a circle. All horizontal lines are outside of all circles. There are 16 sections of vertical lines. I'm dying to know where the other 4 come from! 🙃

3 full circles. They are difficult to see unless I defocus my eyes.

When I was a kid, no matter how hard I tried, I was not able to see the hidden 3D image. 20+ years later, when I saw them again, I decided to give it another try and I saw it! This is like a whole new world. I had my magic eye!
