Why does MATLAB crash when i use the Simulink function?

MATLAB 2013a 32-bit student edition crashes when i try the simulink function on the command line. I haven't been able to open a new simulink model from the dropdown menu. I get the error:
"Undefined function 'coder.coverage.CodeCoverageSettings' for input arguments of type 'char'."
I am running windows 7 64 bit, but from what i have read, that shouldn't matter for anything but the coder toolboxes.
I also have all my toolboxes on my path, but i can't access any of them. They all are checked out. They dont appear when I use the ver command though.
