When I try to install R2013a the download_agent.jnlp just opens in a text editing program and will not launch the installer. How do I fix this other than downloading everything manually?
Thanks, Jeff

I had a couple hiccups myself. Here were some things I did, but I am not sure which specific thing was the one that helped:
  • Quit out of any MATLAB you are running
  • If you had installed the prerelease version of 2013a, delete (or move) that version out of the Applications directory
  • Don't download from Chrome (which seems to have some Java incompatibilities). Firefox worked for me.
  • Install the latest version of Java if prompted to do so.
I hope that helps. If not, installation issues are often better resolved by contacting support than using this forum, as the issues are often very specialized.

The install agent insisted on firing up Safari for me. There was nothing I could do with the .jnlp file other than look at it as a text file. It was xml but the browsers refused to render it because it was missing the style file (or something like that.)
So skip the download agent and use the manual download.
Download the install zip file first and unzip that file to create a new directory (the normal unarchive step). In that new directory download the common and the maci zip files, and unzip each of them, letting it create the directories for each.
Now fire up the installer, authenticate, go through the install sequence.
If you get a complaint about a .enc file then you probably missed unzipping the common or maci files.
