Simulink 2007a and serial port GUI

I am currently using Matlab 2007a with an embedded target for microchip disPIC. Is there a way to use the simulink blockset from 2007a to create a GUI and send data to control a device for example a motor?
On another note, can the more recent 32-bit versions of matlab create a GUI to work with hardware and send data through the serial port to control a device
