white grid on black axes?

Hi,

How can I put a white grid on black axes in a figure? If I try

figure
set(gca, 'Color', 'k')
grid on

then the grid is not visible and I don't know which property sets its color...

I tried this before, but this changes the color of the x/yticks too. Is it possible to keep those black? (without opening another axes with the transparent background and black labels). I want to obtain something like Fig. 1 from here: http://www.nature.com/nsmb/journal/v19/n11/full/nsmb.2424.html

You might have mentioned that you tried this to avoid wasting time. I don't think you can decouple the tick color from the grid color.
