How to insert YTick without numbering in a specific interval

I would like to customise the Y axis in matlab plot. I need to insert the tick without numbering. using the command "set(gca,'Yticklabel',[])" I just get Y axis without numbering at all. But I need some interval to show by numbering and also I would like to fill the empty spaces between the numbers by tick sysmbol (minorTick) without numbering . Is there any way to do that in Matlab? Pl somebody help me.

ylabels() and pass a cell array of character vectors, with one entry for each ytick value. Some of the entries can be the empty character vector ''
