Publishing to MS word from desktop vs network version of matlab

I recently purchased a student version (2012b2) of matlab and every time I try to publish to MS word I get the error that MS word is not installed despite having MS word installed. Surprisingly when I use the network version of matlab through my university on the same PC i can publish to word without any issues. T

I am not sure what is going on here but its a big inconvinience since I purchased the desktop version despite the free network license so that I could do my work and publish the reports i need with having to worry about connectivity

please advise as to what can be done to fix the issue
