Missing file prevents uninstall
Show older comments
I want to unistall MATLAB R2018b but I recieve the following error:
C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2018b\help\5g\helpsearch\segments_q (The system cannot find the file specified).
I've tried to also uninstall with the uninstall executable - it did not work.

Create the file yourself and try again.

Creating the file yourself does work... but sometimes you end up needing to create quite a number of files :(

I have the exactly same question as you.

The official Mathworks recommendation is to reinstall the software so that it writes the files so that you can uninstall.

I have the same situation. But I could not reinstall. I could not both reinstall and unistall.

I recently had a windows situation where I ran into this error with missing files for uninstall.
I dealt with it by telling Windows to delete the entire directory (and all subdirectories.) Took over 1/2 an hour as there were over 1 1/4 million files to delete.
In my situation the errors in registry just deleting the files would leave, was acceptable for me, because I was going to reinstall MATLAB immediately.

My own experience:
Delete all the files in your matlab install folder, i.e.: E:\Program Files\Polyspace\R2020a
Just install again. Problem solved.

When I faced this issue, I just added some dummy 'segments_q' files in the required directory and then again started the uninstallation process. But sometimes you end up needing to create quite a number of files as said in one of the comments. This may not be the proper way, but guess what, it helped! Just letting know to someone who is still struggling with this issue, hope this helps;)
