Matlab 2019b does not start on MacOs Mojave neither Catalina
Show older comments
One collegue of mine installed Matlab 2019b on Mojave MacOs system.
It has worked for few days, today Matlab hangs on startup with no alert nor messages.
Then, I installed 2019b on my machine whith Catalina MacOs system and I have the same issue, while 2018b runs very well.
Is there any known issue on Matlab 2019b and MacOs
Best,

Out of curiosity, do you have the program "Magnet" running? If you do, if you quit magnet do you see the same issue? I want to update but I need to make sure everything is stable before I do.

I have Mojave and did not yet switch to Catelina. However, there was a security update apparaently compatible with Mojave and Catelina.
Now every time Matlab (R2019b) crashes during code runs. These codes were running fine until 2days ago. Anyone faced such an issue? Any work around solutions for this please?
Thank you,
Bhavna

Had the same / similar issue: Matlab R2019b hangs at startup (just after splash screen). Running MacOS Catalina.
I tried deleting some preference / settings files, and this fixed it!
Try deleting these files :
/Users/~/Library/Application Support/MathWorks/MATLAB/R2019b/MATLABDesktop.xml
/Users/~/Library/Application Support/MathWorks/MATLAB/R2019b/matlab.prf
/Users/~/Library/Application Support/MathWorks/MATLAB/R2019b/matlab.mlsettings
Then start Matlab normally.

I turned off my app "Context" and the "MATLABDesktop.xml" files shows up and everything is all fine now.

It worked for me (Catalina 10.15.5) but with an extra-care.
I noticed that the problem was that when I use Matlab, I use it with the Editor window undocked. Well, rather unbelievably, the issue for me was caused by the fact that the Editor window was of the same size as the main window in the vertical direction.
So, to solve the issue, I deleted the 3 files as suggested by Stuart and set the size of the Editor window to be, in the vertical direction, sightly smaller that the main window. Now I can restart Matlab and it does not hang anymore.

I've been using Matlab RO2019b Update 2 on High Sierra and now Mojave. It appears that something is broken in Matlab beyond RO2019b Update 2 since trackpad actions are now not smooth and any command that interacts with file system will not browse to any network shares. There appears to have been changes in RO2019b Update 3 (and beyond) that have caused issues on Mac.
