What is the correct order to put into ifft

Dear community,
I've got a problem and I hope you can help me out.
I am taking a time signal, transfer it by the fft(uf,nsamp) into the frequency domain. There I am using the nsamp/2 first entries and do some calculations.
Finally, I would like to get the resulting time signal. To get a longer time signal, I also do some interpolation to have finer frequency samples df and zero padding.
I have seen a lot of different versions on the internet, but still don't know which is best. What's the right way to get the time signal?
ut= ifft([uf zeros fliplr(conj(uf))])
Can I use the symmetric flag? Or is it enough to take
ut = ifft([uf zeros],nsamp2))
I appreciate your help!
