recover lost simulink file after MATLAB crash

I had 2 Simulink models open when MATLAB froze up. I used the TASK MGR to shut down MATLAB since it indicated MATLAB "is not responding". I opened the SIMULINK files on the specified path & my work for the day is not there. Does MATLAB save backup files at some temporary path as a contingency to crashing? If so where?

If you set your Simulink ‘Autosave’ preferences, a recent version should still be available. You may have to experiment to find the backup files. I haven’t encountered that problem, so I never had to recover an autosaved model.
The appropriate ‘Preferences’ section:

I found the what I think is the backup files per the screenshot (the bottom 3 files). What do I do to OPEN them correctly?

I got them back by simply removing the suffix.

That works. They will be autosaved again,. It might also be best to create duplicates with slightly different filenames just to be sure.
