Tested with Android 4.2, 4.3 JellyBean, and Android 4.4 KitKat

I do not know; you would need to ask Mathworks Sales about that. My guess is that a Mathworks employee who happened to have a Samsung S4 decided to do some spare time experimentation and that eventually got turned into a feature. The two supported devices are the two devices that happen to have the same set of sensors.

Checking around, I find that the interface used is not inherently restricted to Samsung; there is an Android sensors framework.
