Rename a matlab instance in Windows 7

Hi,
This is probably not a Matlab specific question, but I was wondering if there was a setting to change the Matlab instance names from say "MATLAB R2012a" to a custom name, such as "Matlab #1" or "Matlab w/ Excel". The reason is I have multiple instances of Matlab running (one linked to Excel, others running specific tasks), and would like to be able to differenciate them in a glance.
Thanks

Hello Olivier,
I understand that you would like to change the names of the running MATLAB applications, and I assume this is so that you can tell them apart in Task Manager or your OS' equivalent.
I am afraid that changing the icon or primary MATLAB window title violates the MATLAB license agreement (Section 5.7 and 9.2.4 in my license agreement, at least). I would not recommend going this route.
However, if you want to differentiate the MATLAB "Process" rather than the various "Application" windows, you can do that by simply changing the name of the executable that runs MATLAB. On my machine, this executable is located here:
C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2015a\bin\win64\MATLAB.exe
Note that if you change this value, the normal executable that runs MATLAB (located at C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2015a\bin\matlab.exe) will not longer work. You will also need to remap any shortcuts to run MATLAB to target the newly named executable. This may have unknown consequences on your machine, depending on how other programs might interact with MATLAB.
I hope this with your workflow.
