Hi everyone, I'm a college student studying Electrical Engineering. I'm currently in a final year project right now. My question is: When we have to use LQR Controller and PID controller? That's all. Any help that any of you might offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

By definition, LQR gives optimal state-feedback law of the dynamic system that minimizes certain quadratic objective function. In order words, the LQR controller is much better depending on your design criteria. In contrast, PID is simple and in most cases, empirical tuning works. However, PID is not optimized while LQR is.
