Closing plot windows crashes Matlab on Mac (M1, Sonoma 14.2.1)

Ploting any varaible works well, but closing the plot window will crash Matlab. How to fix it?

Known issue (among some others with Sonoma). See this thread.

It looks like people say they have had success closing figures "manually" if they put the focus on a different window first, before closing. Looks like "close all" in command window also works.
