Best Segmentation technique for various satellite based land cover images.

I have to basically test 4 images - 1) Predominantly Agricultural Cover, 2) Mountaneous, 3) Forest Cover and 4) Urban area ( Roads + houses mainly). After segmentation, I think its better to classiy the area % of the feature mentioned above in the image, separating it from the background. I am done for mountaneous one(texture based segmentation) , but cant get satisfactory results for others. Please guide me for other techniques.
