See the licensing FAQ. Free ThingSpeak licenses will renew yearly in the month you created the license assuming you meet the login frequency requirements. Data retention is described in the licensing FAQ as well. Generally your data from the previous year will be preserved at least, if not more, depending on the amount of data you have stored. Paid licenses do allow increased data ingest and storage as well.
