running ble freezing MATLAB software after update

When I run the command,

ble("deviceName")

(with device name being the device that shows up in blelist)

the matlab software become unresponsive and I am unable to enter any commands. Ctrl + C does not work and I have to hard stop MATLAB.

Even if I shut off the bluetooth connection on the computer, MATLAB still says busy and any commands I CAN type are not evaluated when I hit enter.

Previously, I had no issues connecting to any BLE device or with using this command. The only recent changes to my system are:

• I updated from Matlab 2020b to 2021b
• Updated Windows 10 to Windows 11.

What I've tried:

• I uninstalled Matlab 2021b and reinstalled Matlab 2020b

Can anyone provide any thoughts or advice on what else to try?

I found a solution to the above problem.

Solution: Restore Windows 11 back to Windows 10.

I am still unsure what the main problem is, but the above step worked for me.

Full explanation of the problem:

ble("deviceName")

would normally report back:

b =
ble with properties:
Name: "device name
Address: "address"
Connected: 1 
..........
Show services and characteristics

and you could then use the MATLAB command prompt to do more work.

Since I updated to Windows 11, the arduino I would connect to would blink but I never had access to the command prompty after running the first line of code above. Restoring back to Windows 10 completely solved this.

... and one reason I’ve not installed Win 11, even though Micro$oft sent it to me several days ago.

Hi. I have the same issue afger upgrading Windows 10 to 11, with the "ble" function from Matlab, trying to connect Nordic Thingy 52 multi-sensor module. It does recognize the name and address with "blelist" function, but matlab software is unresponsive when lanching "ble("Thingy")" though the Bluetooth Low Energy connection is working (Thingy 52 module is blinking gerre indicating effective connection).

Is there any other way than downgrading Windows 11 to Windows 10 to make it work?

I was contacted when a patch was sent out but I never tried it. I stayed with Windows 10 and it works perfectly. Sorry I can't be of more help right now.

Support for Windows 11 was added starting in MATLAB R2021b Update 1. You must at least be on that version if you are using Windows 11.

I put the laptop system back in Windows 10. Since I mostly use matlab on Linux (desktop), I didn't spend any more time playing with the Windows setup
