determine order of ar model

I wish to determine the order of an 'ar' model to be used for forecasting data using 'forecast'. The data contains 48 observations. How do I determine the order of the model? In the figure above I've specified order(n)=23. Will it increase as the observations increase.

Also,please suggest a command that'll join the blue and red line.'hold on' doesn't work. Thanks in advance.
