This exercise designs an automatic gain control (AGC) system for speech companding.

This exercise designs an automatic gain control system for a speech waveform based on short-time estimates of the
speech signal variance (or equivalently, the short-time standard deviation). The AGC system operates at either a syllabic rate (slow response to changes in the short-time speech signal variance), or an instantaneous rate (rapid response to changes in the short-time speech signal variance).
