Fitness-Directed Strategy Switching PSO (FDSSPSO)

A novel PSO variant FDSS-PSO, uses Fitness-Directed Strategy Switching to alternate between two velocity update rules.

Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) often suffers from premature convergence and a poor balance between exploration and exploitation. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel variant, FDSS-PSO, which introduces a Fitness-Directed Strategy Switching mechanism. Particles in FDSS-PSO dynamically alternate between two velocity update rules based on their real-time performance. This strategy is governed by an adaptive inertia weight that ensures a smooth, non-linear transition from exploration to exploitation without requiring manual parameter tuning.
