Mobile Phone Pendulum Doppler Experiment
Version 1.0.0 (12.9 MB) by
Duncan Carlsmith
Live Script analysis of data from mobile phone pendulum Doppler shift experiment.
This Live Script illustrates analysis of audio data from a receiver at several locations near a mobile phone tone generator swinging as a damped simple pendulum. A tiny Doppler shift in the detected frequency is shown to oscillate at the pendulum frequency and its harmonics depending upon receiver location and time. The script may be used as a basis for an accessible at-home mobile phone based experiment, leveraging computation.
This script may interest students and instructors of physics. 'Try this' suggestions, coding 'Challenges,' and references are included for further exploration. Additional educational Live Scripts by the author are here. Related Live Scripts concerning pendulums, the Doppler effect, and mobile phone audio data analysis are listed in the references.
