The native MATLAB function chebyshevT is offensively slow for numerical inputs. The function chebT provided here is a drop-in replacement with a compiled C backend. On my desktop, benchmark.m estimates a ~5000x speedup in evaluations of Chebyshev polynomials.
If your MATLAB project requires evaluations of Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind, consider using chebT.
