Boost Converter
Version 1.0.0 (35.1 KB) by
Abdelrahman Farghly
DC-DC converter that steps up (increases) the input voltage to a higher output voltage while reducing the output current.
Basic Boost Converter Circuit
Main Components:
- Switch (S) – Typically a MOSFET
- Inductor (L) – Stores energy when the switch is on
- Diode (D) – Provides a path for current when the switch is off
- Capacitor (C) – Filters the output voltage
- Load (R) – Consumes the boosted voltage
perating Principle
🔌 1. Switch ON:
- Inductor stores energy.
- Current flows through Vin → L → S → GND.
- Diode is reverse-biased, output is powered by the capacitor.
🔋 2. Switch OFF:
- Switch opens.
- Inductor reverses polarity and pushes current through the diode.
- Energy from inductor + input charges the capacitor and powers the load.
