Buck-boost converter
Version 1.0.0 (31.2 KB) by
Abdelrahman Farghly
The output voltage needs to be higher or lower than the input voltage and possibly inverted.
Operating States
1. Switch ON:
- Inductor stores energy
- Diode is reverse-biased
- Load is powered by the capacitor
2. Switch OFF:
- Inductor releases energy to load through diode
- Capacitor charges
- Load receives current from inductor and capacitor
Applications
- Battery-powered devices (when voltage can vary)
- LED drivers
- Power management in embedded systems
- Renewable energy systems (solar, fuel cells)
Advantages
- Can both step up and step down voltage
- Simple topology
- Efficient over a wide voltage range
