Wow, interesting... I thought that people using programming languages would be more positive about AI tools in their work. From my point of view, the only negative thing is that Europe doesnt seem to have something that can compete with US and Chinese tools. And I am noticing myself that I am becoming increasingly addicted on high work efficiency enabled by Claude Code...
I think that the broad range of responses is due a variety of reasons:
- Non-uniformity of AI tools: they exist in a variety of "solutions" that offer varying levels of integration and efficiency with existing apps and tools.
- Stochastic nature: they are better at solving some types of problems than others and often yield different results.
- Language popularity: given the preponderance of some languages, they are inherently better at Javascript and Python than at MATLAB code.
- Prompting skill: AI tools are better at shorter, more focused tasks. The way that some people think and write requests is not amenable to the ideal way of working with these tools.
Chiming in late: another reason may be people not using agentic AI with MATLAB / Simulink in the best possible way.
When using the free MATLAB MCP Server and MATLAB Agentic Toolkit / Simulink Agentic Toolkit on top of an LLM, this might significantly improve the experience.
