Hello,
i want to implement a Energy Storage System with a Battery and a Supercapacitor, where the Supercapacitor comes in when the Battery has a short circuit for an emergency system. How can i implement something like this ? I think the right way is to implement a function where a switch is controlled by the SOC of the two storage systems or ?

Time DescendingHello,
Here is one way to implement an energy storage system with a battery and supercapacitor as you described:
- Monitor the state of charge (SOC) of both the battery and supercapacitor. You'll need voltage sensors on each to constantly measure SOC.
- Have a switch (either physical or controlled via code) that normally connects the load to the battery. This switch should be able to quickly disconnect the battery and connect the supercapacitor instead.
- Write a function that periodically checks the battery SOC. If it drops below a safe threshold (indicating a potential short), have the function trigger the switch to disconnect the battery and connect the supercapacitor instead.
- Continue monitoring the supercapacitor SOC. Once it drops below a certain level, trigger the switch to reconnect the battery (assuming the short has been resolved).
- Optionally, you could monitor the battery for faults like over-current or over-temperature as well. If detected, immediately trigger the switch as a safety precaution.
- Make sure the supercapacitor can provide enough burst energy to power the load until alternative power is available or the battery issue is resolved.
