Time Descending
It is interesting to see how the semiconductor-market for Power Electronics has changed over the last decade. While SiC-Diodes have been widley used for many years, SiC-Fets are gaining more and more momentum, espacially since they proved to be reliable enough for commercial use in the automotive industry about two years ago. And GaN is already in the pipeline.
The fast-switching characerstic of SiC-Fets made it possible to increase efficiency in power-electronic devices utilizing higher switching-frequencies (in the hundreds of kHz) in hard-switched topologies. Advancemends in digital control further provided to this technology-push.
