identification of battery with the help of parameters

If some one wants to design battery energy storage system on MatLab, so which of the parameters should be considered to differentiate different batteries ? Like if i want design a system with Vanadium Redox Flow Battery and Nickel Cadmium so which of the parameters that can differentiate these two batteries in simulator ? How can i prove this that this storage is Vanadium Redox Battery or Ni-Cd. ?
