What projection does geoplot use?

I think this is an easy question but I haven't found an answer in the geoplot documention or the geographic axes documentation. What projection do the geoplot and geoscatter functions use?

Similarly, I know it's possible to change projections in map axes, but can you change projections with geographic axes/geoplot?

MathWorks do not support this feature of having different projectons for "geoplot" or "geographic axes". Looks like an enhancement feature and I have brought this issue to the concerned people and it might be considered in any future release.
