How to compare two images from each other

Hello

I need help getting started with this project. I will be given images of an object that moves throughout the pictures. Is there a way that MATLAB can identify the object, know it, and track it throughout the several images? In addition also display the displacement of the object through each image.

Read in the images, view them, think about what makes your object of interest different from everything else, isolate it, take measurements on it, do the same for new images. And of course read literature from others who have done the same/and or look through the FEX. There's no reason to reinvent the wheel.
