Advantages of Kalman filter over other filters for target tracking

Im aware of the use of probabilistic data association filters, Kalman filters and particle filters etc for tracking targets. What are the advantages of Kalman filter over the others , if there are any since it clearly seems to be the preferred one?

Also, how is calculating intensity weighted centroid better than the geometric centroid of an image?
