Filtering of LVDT data

Hi, I have been working on filtering LVDT data but having problems with filtering them. My data looks as shown below.

I applied a Butterworth low pass filter of upper cutoff 15Hz frequency (by trial and error) and applied it to my data . I got the response as shown in the figure. Still I can see a lot of noise in filtered data.

I understand that I need to stick to lowpass filter for LVDT so that I do not eliminate the resdual displacement values.

What is the logical way of estimating filter cutoff frequencies for LVDTs?

I can see that the filter is working nice, as can be seen from the second picture. But Can i get smoother data with better filtering?
