How can I read in music files as potential process in MatLab?

In order of my internship I have to differentiate music and speech. Do anyone have any idea how i can do it? My first problem is to transform a .wav-file in a potential trend. I hope you can help me.

As usual I ask, if it wouldn't be more efficient to let a human solve this problem.
