If I remember correctly, the MATLAB Installer will install it correctly for you. Go to your MathWorks Account page and launch the Installer from there.

Did you find any solution?
I'm having the same problem as you.

One of my users is now having this same problem. 200+ people can install the toolbox using the *.mltbx file, but he keeps getting an error "Toolbox cannot be installed because it is not a valid toolbox file". However, the file is valid, so there's another issue.

We have the same issue on a customer environment with MATLAB R2019b. Any hints what is the reason for this error? Files are being copied to the Add-Ons installation folder during installation process but finally this error occurs. The MATLAB log files doesn't contain any hints or errors.

Be sure you download the correct file. You should download the file from this adress: https://petercorke.com/toolboxes/machine-vision-toolbox/ . By doing this i solved my problem.
