Opening a .mat file

What is the best was to open a .mat file in Matlab R2015b, so I can then extract the 3 data set saved in that file and use the boxplot(x); function?

load name_of_file.mat

So I did this, but the 3 saved things are in that opened workspace and I cant boxplot that?

Better:
S = load(...)
then you can get the names of all of the contents:
fieldnames(S)
