I have modelled the dynamic response of a continuous beam due to a moving force using FEM in Matlab. I'd like to do the same analysis but with a moving mass (i.e taking into account inertia effects). From there I'd also like to look at a sprung mass. I'm not sure how to tweak my programme in order to do this so I'm wondering if anyone can help me on this matter.
I understand the theory involved but I'm now sure how to implement it in Matlab. I've used 20 beam elements to model the beam and assembled the global stiffness and mass matrices from these and I've used the wilson theta method to solve for displacements. If you know about this topic I can send you my program for a better understanding.
Also I should add that this is for crane analysis and not a vehicle crossing a bridge.
Thank you!
