More details are required to create a reliable answer. What are the inputs? How are the "alphanumeric characters" provided? As images or ASCII codes?

For homework question it is usual in the forum to assist you, but not to solve this for you. Please show us what you have tried so far and ask a specific question. You can solve this with 3 lines of code, so it is hard to post hints without showing the complete solution.
Start with defining, which "alpha numeric characters" you need. Spaces? Dots?
