It surely could not be a bad idea if it were an option. Good would be measured by the eyes of a person who might use it.
For me, I look back periodically at the questions I have answered. If there is activity, then I return to that question. This is sufficient for me, and all I have time to do. Would I want to be pestered by mail telling me there is activity? Not really. But that is me.
