Is there a way to run editor and simulink side by side

Hi, Actually, what i wish to do is, I need my simulink to to first run and output a value to workspace and upon receiving this value, my editor must do some calculations using this values and finally output a value back as an input to simulink. Upon receiving this value simulink can continue with the rest process and thus as a cycle it continues. Is there any way for that? Any help is appreciable
