New file browser display: m~, m*, and new editor autosave changes

I just upgraded to 2015a and was unable to find any info in the help documentation about why some files in the File Browser window show a suffix of m~ and some m*. I figured it out and this post is to help others. Matlab now by default saves changes upon clicking away from a file in the editor, and saves backups with filename having ~ appended. Both behaviors can be changed via Preferences>>Editor. (Personally I don't like the "save when clicking away" feature at all and have defeated it after having been bitten once.)
