i'd like to add a '►' in annotation like tihs:
figure(1) ; an = annotation('textbox',[0.5,0.5,0.05,0.05],'String',' ►','FitBoxToText','on');
and if such command is typed in command window, it works well like tihs
but ,when i run such a '.m' file , the output become this like

I ran in my computer and it worked well, I guess it must be something related with the interpreter (Tex,Latex,...) and how the actual symbol is displayed. You may try using latex symbols, it is not quite the same but it would work everywhere:
txt = '$$ \rangle $$';
figure
an = annotation('textbox',[0.5,0.5,0.05,0.05],'String',txt,'FitBoxToText','on','Interpreter','latex');

yes, it is not quite the same. The best latex symbol would be \blacktriangleright but that was not working when I tried it in my computer.

yes, and \triangleright works correctly , print a right triangle not filled
but it seems \blacktriangleright do not exist
