Result of equation in Matlab is different from Excel.

As the numbers increase (not very big), digits after decimal points become different from Excel and calculator. I get 158486.23 in Excel, and 158486.44 in Matlab. Which one is more accurate and should l take into account?

Obviously I'm biased towards MATLAB, but if you show us the specific calculations you're trying to perform in MATLAB and in Microsoft Excel we may be able to offer ideas about why the results of those calculations differ between the two software packages.

Both use the double floating point numbers (IEEE® standard 754), which will have floating point errors in the result of any operation performed.

Without seeing what operations are being performed, it is difficult to provide any comment.

Also mention how you are providing the input values.

I'm making a calculation which is:

x1 = 2456.60;
x2 = 2750.80;
x3 = 2958.45;
a1 = 56.50;
a2 = -56.50;
a3 = 0;
b1 = 120.48;
b2 = 196.65;

Z1 = (((x1*a1) + (x2*a2) + (x3*a3)) / (t))
Z2 = (((x1*b1) + (x2*b2) + (x3*b3)) / (t))

Each term has 2 digits after decimal.

Z2 greater which has inaccurate results. Smaller one is the same on Matlab and Excel.
