How do you write a function that imports data from an .xlsx file and saves the data as a .mat?

I need to write a function that imports data from an .xlsx file and saves the data as a .mat using xlsread. I'm just not even sure where to start with this one

Load the data using readmatrix function

data_excel=readmatrix('file_name.xlsx') ; % Check the file format name

Save the file in mat format

I tried this and i keep getting this error

Error using readmatrix

Unable to find or open 'markers_trial001.xlsx'. Check the path and filename or file permissions.

Error in importantaMarkerDataFromXls (line 1)

data_excel=readmatrix('markers_trial001.xlsx')
